(Hamstead Cliffs and Foreshore) - 2005
The main place to look at Hamstead is along the foreshore. Tiny teeth and small remains including crocodile, turtle and fish can be found by getting on your knees and searching within the shingle on the foreshore. Especially at the base of the cliff and along the tide line. Fossils can be found at both access points either along Bouldnor Cliff or Hamstead Cliff. Often if you stay in one area you can pick up lots of teeth and fragments of bone without moving too far.

For larger mammilian remains, turtle and croc fragments, walk along the foreshore from Hamstead to Boldnor Cliff. There is such a wide stretch of coastline, that if you continue as far as you can towards Yarmouth, since this is such a long walk, most people only collect at the start of Yarmouth or Hamstead. You are more likely to find the larger fragments in the middle between Yarmouth and Hamstead.

(Hamstead Formation) - 2005
You can also sieve or take samples back for home sieving of the Hamstead Formation. This bed is full of fossil seeds, many different species of mollusc and small teeth. At Hamstead cliff, the Bembridge Marls is exposed at the base of the cliff. Within this bed, fish remains and occasional other vertebrates can be found in a sandy silty layer. The marls are full of seeds and molluscs.
